Famous around the world for the quality of its lace, a symbol of French style luxury, it is nothing less than the duty of Calais to pay tribute to it. It should be said that some of the most illustrious brides continue to wear gowns made of Calais lace, namely including Kate Middleton. The Museum of Lace and Fashion, established in an old factory typical of the lace industry of Calais in the late 19th century, was inaugurated in 2009 to revisit the history of a local field of expertise which dates back to the 16th century, as well as the place which lace occupies in the world of fashion. In addition to its permanent collections, the Museum of Lace also organises temporary exhibitions and workshops for kids. A number of those temporary exhibitions give pride of place to fashion through retrospectives on the work of great couturiers like Givenchy.
