The Field of the Cloth of Gold (Camp du Drap d’Or in French) was the place where François I, king of France and King Henry VIII of England met in 1520 to try to forge a Franco-English alliance. That meeting took place with the greatest pomp and continues to be commemorated today. The Field of the Cloth of Gold was laid out just a few kilometres from Guines and Camping La Bien Assise.
Although no union between the two sovereigns ever saw the light of day, history has not forgotten the Field of the Cloth of Gold. An association has been created with a focus on that event and now organises re-enactments, mediaeval meals, and so on. So, be sure to take advantage of your time at Camping La Bien Assise to delve into the history of France and the Field of the Cloth of Gold.
